Art of Caring Closing Night Party and Film

Last Friday we closed The Art of Caring exhibition with a new film from the talented Anna Bowman. She interviewed several artists from the exhibition and reveals the stories behind their work.

Meet Peter Herbert and Alban Low, the exhibition curators and five of the artists showing in this wonderful annual group show focusing on the theme Health for All. The exhibition began in May with a display of postcards of work by artists and nurses at St George's Hospital curated by Alban Low and supported by the hospital and Kingston University. It then moved to the Gallery, St Pancras Hospital where Alban and Peter Herbert curated an exhibition of artwork by 38 artists. We meet artists Grace Currie, Sue Challis, Sybil Adelaja, Ines Elsa Dalal and Jane Allison and see some of their work as well as work by other artists in the exhibition.  

We are very grateful for all the support from the hardworking curatorial team at The Arts Project, including Peter Herbert, Elaine Harper-Gay and Simon Richardson. We will be opening submissions for the sixth year of the Art of Caring in January 2020, so please check out the website then.

The Art of Caring celebrates International Nurses Day 2018

Today we celebrated International Nurses Day at the Art of Caring exhibition in St George's Hospital, Tooting, London, UK. The exhibition looked fabulous on the walls, and we had plenty of visitors stop to take a look. The postcard artworks have been exhibited together in small groups, while the haikus and aphorisms are written on placards carried by small figures underneath.

The Art of Caring received 330 submissions on the subject of Care and Caring from more than 170 artists. Much of the work was influenced by this year’s International Nurses Day theme ‘Health is a Human Right’.

Today the Chief Nursing Officer for England, Professor Jane Cummings, thanked all nurses for their significant contribution in providing safe, effective, compassionate care for patients and those they care for.

"It fills me with pride when I see the fantastic work and world class care provided by nurses across the country and International Nurses Day (IND) is the perfect opportunity to recognise their amazing contribution to health and care globally."

You can see the Art of Caring exhibition outside Ingredients Restaurant, First Floor, Lanesborough Wing, St George's Hospital until the 30th May 2018. The restaurant has over 12,000 visitors a week so I'm sure you'll be rubbing shoulders with nurses, doctors, porters, and patients as you view the artwork.

Art of Caring film night

The Art of Caring closed on October 19th 2017 at St Pancras Hospital with a wonderful night of artistic goodbyes, where fresh ideas flowed forth and future plans were laid. It was an opportunity for artists to collect their work and for the buyers to take their treasured purchases home.


Anna Bowman premiered her brilliant short film about the 2017 Art of Caring exhibition. Curated by Peter Herbert, the Gallery exhibition expands CollectConnect's St George's Hospital Art of Caring show, held in connection with International Nursing Day. As you probably already know Alban and the CollectConnect team started the annual Art of Caring exhibition in 2015. The film gives us a unique insight into the exhibition and we also meet nine of the 35 artists whose work is on show at the Gallery, St Pancras Hospital and see many of the 200 postcards and haikus first displayed at St George's Hospital.

We hope the future of the Art of Caring is secure and we'll return in 2018.
